Tie a slip knot on the wrong side of the needle work to secure the stitch in place and cut the end of the ribbon. It can also be done by securing the ribbon to the main fabric by very small stitches of matching thread.I prefer the second method. In this ribbon will not fray.
This stitch is also called Japanese stitch. Bring the needle from the back of the fabric to the front at A. Pull the ribbon in the direction where the tip of the stitch will be. Hold the ribbon flat on the fabric the direction of the petal. Move the needle under the ribbon to make the ribbon puff up a little and not flat. Hold the ribbon in place with your thumb. Pierce the ribbon in the center of the ribbon at B.Pull the needle and ribbon to the back of the fabric slowly . Ribbon curls itself slightly at B.
